Purchased 5 Years Ago - This CarCapsule is Still Going Strong!
26th Feb 2016
Hi Phil, we met at the 2015 SEMA show and I mentioned that I had a Car Capsule. It was purchased 5 years ago and it's still doing active duty today. Outside. In the snow. Freezing rain. Exactly the type of abuse the instructions warned me to NEVER do. Instructions? We don't need no stinkin' instructions!
From November until around mid-March it protects my '61 Vette from absolutely everything the weather department sends me. On a warm day in March, I'll coax the car into the sunshine and spread out the capsule so the sun can warm it up so the material is pliable. then it's rolled up front to back and stored outside hanging from the pergola with a tarp to cover it up until next November. It's been through a lot in 5 years. The wind eventually tore off the hold-down tabs one by one but since it's relatively protected and it's oversized for the car, I'm not worried about any paint scuffs. I had some concerns about mice but in five years nothing has chewed it's way into the bubble.
I love this thing. Great design, very good material. And those fans keep the car nice and dry (I've checked) all winter long.
The only problems I've encountered in the 5 years is creases in the top material from being rolled up all summer. The creases become fine tears and let the air escape. Fortunately a large gorilla happened along and gave me some of his tape which worked just perfectly. He left before I could thank him. The other problem was with the fans. After 3 years, one died. Next summer I replaced it with a similar fan. Following year the other two died. I took all three fans off the mounting board and installed 3 new fans. No problems since. These fans are pulling air from an uncovered area and the reason for the fan failures is due to the outdoor moisture so the fans are good - it's the guy who made them work outdoors against the instruction warnings that killed them.
So here are some pics. With el Nino this year we didn't get much snow so I had to wait until we did so you could see the snow on the bubble. You can see the temperature on the thermometer. A couple of days ago it was reading -18 C but there wasn't any snow and I wanted the snow in the shot. Feel free to use the pics in any way you wish to. They're yours. File the pics under the "Hey Kids. Don't do this at home."
I'll be ordering a new capsule this September from you - and yes it's going outside. I know I know. Think of me as a Canadian testing facility.
You mentioned about being able to offer free shipping to a US address in Niagara Falls NY and I haven't forgotten the generous offer. We'll be talking this Sept.
You make a really good product and I appreciate the R&D that went into the Car Capsule. It keeps our cars safe and dry so we can pass them along to a good home down the road.
Overhead shot. That's the snow blower next to the bubble.
Like the lift? Yeah, they told me not to install it outside.
Although it's covered, the snow still manages to cover the bubble front to back. Like the Christmas lights?
